the plan

May 5th, 2007 by kk517

seems like my plans to join a gym could be canceled. I seem to be doing well on my own. It’s been 2 weeks since the end of my courses. I’ve been on a a vegy only diet, execise regularly, and already I’m back to the original 150(from 158). If I keep this up, I just might be able to drop back to 130 (if that is the healthy weight for my height and build).

Btw, my all vegy diet isn’t some stupid grass eating hippy diet, I cook and season them. It’s not one of those crappy things where people eat salads for every meal. Unless it’s a hot day, there’s no reason to not have a hot meal for dinner.

finally felt like doing some 3D modeling today. Take a look into the photo album and you will see the new piece.

Did anyone see Tori Amos on letterman Thursday? ….man she should fire her hair stylist, that was a hideous hair do. (no, I don’t watch letterman on a daily bases, just so happens I was channel surfing and saw it. Honestly, I don’t remember a time when letterman was funny. People watch that show because there’s nothing else on at that hour.)

good day out

May 2nd, 2007 by kk517

took the car in for an oil change today, now it runs so fine. A little tap of the gas in 3rd gear and it jumps 40 to 80, now that’s a happy car. I went to j-town after that to pick up my magazines. I was hesitant to eat there, since bound to have meat in any dish. No…I’m haven’t been convertered to a vegetarian but since I’ve been on a vegetarian diet for a week, it’s only fair that I treat myself to the best that I can afford. So instead of looking for meat, I went to Kiva for some good waffle with fruit toppings and a latte. Man…that was a great brunch. I like that waitress there, she always suggest something better than what I ordered (I was going for just a plain blueberry waffle). Given that I was already in the west side of town, I proceeded to head to Ikea for a casual stroll. That little casual stroll was made into a $50 shopping spree. I got some good mimi shelves to organize all the devices on the other desk. Those little shelves only cost $7 a pop, I will be back tomorrow to get 4 more. (check the photo below).  I really want to put the printer in the corner. Oh right, in case you are wondering, that’s my new laser printer. I also got stackable cd holders. While I was at Ikea, I saw these really nice dessert wine glasses that are just perfect for serving my favorite apple ice cider. I didn’t purchase them today as they are a bit expensive ($2.5 each, I was a set of 8 for entertaining friends, which makes it $20 for just 8 of them)

After Ikea, it was just 3ish, still too early to head home, so I went to Vaugh Mills. Didn’t buy a single thing there….not that there’s nothing I want, I just like to have control over how much I spent. I finally saw the Sony NWA805W in person, and now I want one.  Yes it’s impractical for someone like me who has either a desktop or laptop with me 24-7, but the size, the design, it’s a piece of art, much better than anything from Apple. If you’ve seen the photos on the web, let me tell you, the real thing looks better. You just have to take in how small it is.  Today I also saw Bebel Gilberto’s latest album,…but as I saw, no more spending for the day,…eventhough it only cost $16.99.  Anyhow, I took a little break in Vaugh Mills to read my magazines, and now my mojo for design is back. I’m all ready to come up with a design for Saladking.

not a cause for celebration nor otherwise…just getting by another day.

camera update

April 27th, 2007 by kk517

Went to Henry’s today,…seems like there’s no hope of finding a replacement LCD for the T9. So…the only option left is to scavenge for a second hand, though, given the release date of the product, I highly doubt that I can find it for under $100. ($100 is about the cost of the LCD part alone).

good fun

April 26th, 2007 by kk517

After changing out the winter tires, I stopped by the Sony customer service building to get an est. on how much it will cost to fix the LCD of my sis’ T9. Turns out it’s much the same as the US side of things. The cost to replace one little lcd unit (parts+labour) is $150 CAD. Yesterday, I held off adding an entry to my blog explaining why the world is filled with eletronic junk, (thought I give Sony a chance before getting an extact quote). So it turns out stupid pricing schemes from big fat corporations like Sony are responsible for creating so much eletronic junk by overpricing repair cost and refusing to sell replacement parts to customers.

Anyhow, that only made my afternoon more interesting. I prep my desk and begin surgery for an LCD transplant from a MVC-FD95 to a DSC-T9. The transplant did not went through because the cables doesn’t match (who knew technologies 7 years apart aren’t compatible, ha ha).  Anyhow both patients were sewed back up and made 100% recovery. Tomorrow I will go into town and see if I can find a replacement LCD somewhere. Opening eletronics surely is a fun way to spent an afternoon, though one screw really tired my out. It was too tight, took me 20 mins, a screw driver and a wrench to unscrew it.

Here’s a picture of the process. (it’s not as detailed as I want it to be, so don’t expect a step by step guide to opening up a T9)

(side note: really hungry right now, I’m trying to be a vegetarian for the week, and vegies alone just doesn’t seem to fill the pit -_- )

movei: Grindhouse

April 24th, 2007 by kk517

Saw Grindhouse tonight, Planet Terror was awsome. Flesh eating zombies, wild gun fire, sexy Rose McGowan with a M16+M203 for a leg, what more can you ask for?  People who find gory films entertaining surely will like this one.  The second feature, death proof, was much of a piece of crap as expected. Nothing good ever comes from Tarantino. Even with talents like Rosario Dawson and Kurt Russell, it was still torture to sit through it. The plot was lame, for the most part, the movie is filled with dialogs which reflects the stereotypic view of what Tarantino think woman talks about in their own time. Honestly, if you do decide to see it in theatre, just walk out after Plant Terror is done, the ending to death proof isn’t worth the wait.

Note1: if you don’t like black eye peas and/or Fergy, you are going to love Planet Terror, she gets kill by zombies

Note2: The only thing good about death proof is that it show why stunt doubles who doesn’t have the looks nor the acting talent should not be acting.

everyday stuff and movies

April 23rd, 2007 by kk517

With school behind me (mostly), I’m catching up to my other tasks. Renewed my licence plate today, need to renew my licence as well tomorrow. Changing out the winter tires didn’t go too well, as the garage was plenty packed with other people who are also doing so. It’s odd that this many people hold off changing their winter tires till April. If I had the time, I would have got it done end of March.

Anyway, after those and going to the supermarket, I went for a movie. I watched 300. It was all the range a couple weeks ago, so I wanted to see it. It was a pretty good movie but definitely not just to the hype around it. I do love the battle scenes, they were so beautifully choreographed. The oracle dance scene was very enjoyable. I think this is the first time I’ve seen this technique used with blue/green screen. Someone must have worked really hard to get rid of any trace of air bubbles and refractions. (In case you dont’ get it, they filmed it under water then chroma keyed out the background.)

Tommorrow, my friends and I will watch Grindhouse. I’m really looking forward to Planet Terror. Actually, it’s the only part I want to watch. I’ve never been a fan of Tarantino, form the movies he directed to movies his acted in, I’d never liked a single one. Hopefully Death Proof will be tolerable.
