good fun

After changing out the winter tires, I stopped by the Sony customer service building to get an est. on how much it will cost to fix the LCD of my sis’ T9. Turns out it’s much the same as the US side of things. The cost to replace one little lcd unit (parts+labour) is $150 CAD. Yesterday, I held off adding an entry to my blog explaining why the world is filled with eletronic junk, (thought I give Sony a chance before getting an extact quote). So it turns out stupid pricing schemes from big fat corporations like Sony are responsible for creating so much eletronic junk by overpricing repair cost and refusing to sell replacement parts to customers.

Anyhow, that only made my afternoon more interesting. I prep my desk and begin surgery for an LCD transplant from a MVC-FD95 to a DSC-T9. The transplant did not went through because the cables doesn’t match (who knew technologies 7 years apart aren’t compatible, ha ha).  Anyhow both patients were sewed back up and made 100% recovery. Tomorrow I will go into town and see if I can find a replacement LCD somewhere. Opening eletronics surely is a fun way to spent an afternoon, though one screw really tired my out. It was too tight, took me 20 mins, a screw driver and a wrench to unscrew it.

Here’s a picture of the process. (it’s not as detailed as I want it to be, so don’t expect a step by step guide to opening up a T9)

(side note: really hungry right now, I’m trying to be a vegetarian for the week, and vegies alone just doesn’t seem to fill the pit -_- )
