ffff….network is finally operating normally…sort of

my home network is now a lot better. Previously I was only able to connect at 10mbps, and connection drops off whenever there’s heavy traffic (about half an hour or so).
This has been happening for a week or two now. I’ve done everything to monitor the software side of thing and nothing turned up. Finally I decided to open up the box and there is it. The problem with the router is that it’s over heating. I blame you radioshack or whatever your name is now and you sucky power adapater. When I have an appliance with 9v 800amp specs, and your power adapter supports it, I expect it to work!

So now I’m stuck with the task of shopping for a new router. I’ve actually been keeping my eye on the prices ever since the network started acting up months ago. Now I’m left with the options:
1. a router support super G (108mbps wireless) 1000T(wired) and n specs(wireless)
2. a router with just super G
3. a router that match my current router’s specs

my choice
1. way too expensive, there isn’t a single one I can get for $100 bucks
2. these range from $60-$100 bucks, the technology has been around for over a year, this price range is unacceptable
3. $30 will take care of it, but who the f would pay for something old in the clearence section other than the desperate.

So I’m picking 4. Cool the router with a giant external fan till I have time to deal with this.

Here’s a list of stuff I’m planning to get after this sem’s over:

-wireless router  :p
-the pci card with dual dvi out and ati chipset (for some tri screen happiness)
-a 500gb hd, possibly with a firewire external box (yes, I prefer firewire over usb, hopefully the drives by then will drop to around $130.)
-a Mac, be it the mini or Macbook(which ever will be able to run both leopard and vista)

…i guess that’s it. I do very much want to get a 37" LCD tv with 1080p support to be used as a 4th monitor on the wall, but I don’t suppose I will plan my butt in front of the computer much when things are over,…so that’s not going to happen, at least not in TO.  I also have trouble deciding if I do get, should it be on the wall, because it seem more suitable to be placed where the old heater(CRT tv) is, yet if I do, I won’t be able to watch tv/dvd and stuff while I comfortably do my freelence stuff at my desk.
