shopping for a new monitor

Sunday, March 12th, 2006

my old crt has been dying for months now…I really should get a new monitor yet I haven’t seen anything that meets my requirements and price range yet.  I thought I found one the other day but I’m starting to have second thoughts.

The monitor is question: Viewsonic VX2025WM $488
20.1" 1680×1050 res, 800:1 contrast, 300cd/m2, response time 8ms, vga/dvi

By the specs, it certainly meets my base requirements but it lacks the bells and whistles of my current Gateway FPD2185W.

So what doesn’t the viewsonic have?
-HD support (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i)
-video-in (s-video, composite, component)
-usb 2.0 hub
-pip

Disappointing isn’t it? The price is certainly within my range….but featurewise. I think I would be bette off paying an extra $300 for a 2nd Gateway. Pip is almost a must have since it has 2 inputs. As for HD support, that’s just for future investment. Though I’m pretty sure I won’t reg for HD channels, I might be tempted to get the next game system that supports HD. And very likely the blue-ray/HD DVD players will output HD signals.

Anyway, I guess I will put it off till the crt dies.

change

shaved today…but it’s all gone.  Not because some girl said I don’t look good with facial hair, just that I’ve been trying change the shape for the past month and it got out of hand. Apparently, the left side is more dense than the right. It’s just totally out of shape. Good thing I haven’t had the need to go out of the house much. Anyway so now it’s all shaved, so I can start it again. Isn’t hair wonderful? If you make a mistake, just cut them all off and start again.  ^_^

an hour away from work

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

start my day working, end my day working…that’s how my time is spent since college is on strike. Anyway I took an hour off just to browse around. If you don’t know me well…I’m one of those guys who likes cheap efficient solutions. I’ve been trying to find a software to do voice/video over ip. ICQ and MSN both support it but I ditch them both because their interface is crap. I’m using trillian which does support the feature but at the price of $25 a copy. F that. I’m not gonna pay for something I should have for free. So I looked up the good old netmeeting. At first I though it was taken out of XP but if you look harder, it’s in there. Do a:
Run > conf
and you will find it.
What’s good about netmeeting? It’s free, and you dont’ need anything other than the Windows OS and an IP address. Simple and it works. That’s what I like. The whiteboard feature is fun if you like to draw pictures, everyone is the meeting can join in and draw within the same board. : )  artistic meyhem.

silly logic

When purchasing for a baseball glove, one should always look for a glove that will catch the ball without much effort.

reason?  Simple, it follows object oriented programming methodology. I’m the player, all I need to pay attention to is how the game is played. It’s the glove’s responsibility to catch the ball. XD

BaseballPlayer Tommy = new BaseballPlayer("goodone");
Tommy.Lefthand.Glove.Catch(ball);

damn post 2000 internet infinite expansion

While taking a break from my tasks today, I went online to search for information about cable descramblers. Don’t know what they are? Cable descramblers is what people commonly call a black box to watch the paid channels without paying the cable company. I kinda got brain washed while taking the data communication course, so I’m pretty interested in how the cable companies are scrambling their signals. Anyway, went on yahoo, read page after page…..all crap. So many scammers trying to sell you plans to build a scrambler and none of the information I wanted. sigh….It was so much easier to look for stuff like this back in the 90’s.
