looking for a new monitor

Wednesday, August 31st, 2005

As some of you might know, I’m going to be in work term. So I will have a bit of money to spend, and I’ve already decided to spend it on 2 new monitors. It’s about time to go the LCD way. Been looking high and low and really haven’t found what I want. Though through my research, I’ve realize the line between monitor and tv is starting to blur. The difference is mostly in the price, I mean stuffing a tv tuner in a lcd mon isn’t that technically difficult, the companies out there just like to charge you a hell lot for it. Anyway if I had my way, I would get a LCD mon with the following specs:

  • 1x DVI, 1x d-sub input
  • WUXGA (for the less techi it’s 1920X1200 res)
  • 1x Component, 2x s-video, 2x composite input
  • built-in tv tuner /w remote
  • p-in-p
  • xbrite
  • 19" viewable area
  • a $1000 price tag

is that really a lot to ask for?  Dont’ think so. ….and yes I still need 2 of these.

7 hr battle

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

So as I was wasting time late last night, a friend icqed me and asked me to do a rush job converting a badly made webpage into a proper one and translate it for English and Simplified Chinese. Of course I jumped into the offer. Knowing I have only one day to complete it, I still took it. I guess I just like the excitement of the beating the deadline. I started doing the translation and some graphical planning late night (mind you it was already 4am). I think I lose consciousness around 5. When I awoke at noon, I went right at it again. Coding and image cropping for a continuous 7 hrs. It was fun, finished it in time, in eng/trad chinese/simp chinese. Everyone has something they like, skydiving, auto racing,….I guess web authoring is my thing.

Oh if you are a fellow developer, the original was so bad, I could only image cap it and start coding fresh. That’s what I had to work with. But I will got thing done, it actually look better than the original.

diets are contagious

Monday, August 29th, 2005

Lately I’d just don’t feel like eating much. Maybe it’s because my brain doesn’t have to work as hard as when facing with daily assignment deadlines. Or maybe I got it from my sis. Ever since the incident a month ago, she’s been on a crazy execise and diet thing. It’s kinda unhealthy. Don’t know how other deal with it, but I’ve done it myself. Not the diet part, but the extreme execise after a not so pleasant depart of a relationship. Execise till it hurts so much that you can’t move. I did that for 2 months. Guess I will tell her to stop it after 2 months. Meanwhile, I gotta find some way to keep my appetite up.

an occation to celebrate…not really

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

While working on my freelence projects this afternoon, a friend msned me and told me the marks are up. So I did just that, log on to the school academic site and checked my marks. As expected kept my 3.9 gpa, 3 A and 1 B+. I must admit, I had bigger goals at the beginning of the sem. My over all gpa is at 3.8 and I really wanted to pull it up a little but 3 quarters of the sem I found myself pretty burnt out. Guess I will have to work even harder if I want to go above 3.9.  Perfection is never out of reach, just a matter of how bad I want it.

in search of: the ferris wheel

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Long long time ago, but not in a far far galaxy away, I saw huge 4-5 stories tall indoor ferris wheel. I actually don’t remember too well where I saw it, or if I really saw it. Back in my mind somewhere, I do remember I was on it. Anyway, I’d finally found it, it’s at Woodbine Centre (hwy27 and Rexdale Bld). For some unexplainable reason, I’d just want to see this thing and take a photo of it. Perhapes it’s something I can do tomorrow, though it would be kinda strange going all to the way west side of town just to see a ferris wheel. Then again, my curiosity have a tendency to take over. will see….

(ferris wheel, ferris wheel, I want to see the big freaking ferris wheel…)

not in the mood for anything

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

Came back not too long from a movie. Watched the movie "broken flowers". It was a great movie, well written, directed. Though it left me feeling a bit empty. Perhapes it’s the simularities I felt towards the protagonist. Anyway that movie really captured the mood and the atmostphere perfectly, I definitely recommend it to everyone.

horoscope

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

I’m not a big believer in horoscopes, but I’d just read one I really like(mostly because it’s 90% compliments, though rather accurate of my character)….now to find me a scorpio. : )

—————————————————————————————–

You have a very practical nature and want to see concrete results for your efforts. You are definitely not known for flights of fancy! Most of your "wild dreams" have to do with material achievements, well-being, and security, for you have a great love of the physical world and you want to experience and enjoy it fully. Though you will work long and persistently, you also have a strong sensual and comfort-loving side, and you want to enjoy what you have worked for. In fact, you may get extremely lazy at times and have a tendency to overindulge in good food and other earthly pleasures. You also love the beauty of the natural world and probably prefer a peaceful country setting rather than a loud and fast urban life style.

Yours is a steadfast and patient soul, and you are more than ready to shower your loved ones with devotion. The ability to follow through and stick with things is one of your greatest assets. Once your course is set, you stick to it, and no one can knock you off your path.
At heart your needs are simple and you are easy to please. You have a strong desire for security, stability, and peace, and will rarely make changes unless you are forced to do so. You are not very demanding emotionally, though you do crave lots of physical closeness and affection. Because of your faithfulness, emotional steadiness, and gentle strength, others often depend upon you for support. Though you hate any sudden changes to your routines, you usually maintain your sensible outlook. You also enjoy harmonizing with nature. You will make an excellent mother or father, but do remember to follow your gut, and not rely solely on what the “baby books” have to say.

Your major faults include being stubborn, always looking for the bottom line and ignoring new ideas, and being totally unwilling to make changes in your daily routines. You need to learn to open up your world a little bit Taurus.

training begins

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

Since school term has ended, it’s time to shape up again. Started off with a 14k roller blading trail on Sunday, and 100 sit ups a day. It’s a bit extreme considering I haven’t been actively execising for over a year but it’s effective. Oh yea, got a new pair of roller blades, no bloody ankles after the 14k. : )   I’ve spent way too much time on the computer for the last year, but it did earn good grades. For the sem I’d just finished, I’m expecting nothing lesser than a B.

flood flood flood

Friday, August 19th, 2005

When it rains big, all the dangerous drivers come out and crash their cars. ha ha serves you right. All you idiots who speed, who don’t pay attention to the road,…and all those who are aggresive drivers. Eventhough much of them ended up on road side, still plenty are on the road today. Man…it was just rain, a little muddy and parts of streets are flooded but still, it’s just rain. Good thing I’m rather skilled and careful when I drive. It’s all thanks to a friend who taught me when driving, it’s all about control. Thanks Victor.

boring day off

Friday, August 19th, 2005

the only day I allow myself to rest in the coming weeks is today.

Nothing eventful happening… wanted to watch the movie broken flowers (Bill Murray’s in it) but was a bit late. My friend Eric stopped by and checked out some of stuff I’ve been testing. PS2 web browser, ilink games…

Feeling a bit hungry now (skipped lunch as always), so I might just go for a drive in the rain and pick up some good food to go.
